About the Ńorthern Lights Symphony Ørchestra
Formed in 2007, The Ńorthern Lights Symphony Ørchestra presents professional concerts at the highest level both in the UK, and worldwide. We are unique in our specialisation in repertoire of composers born within the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) region, and our innovative programming includes composers from these territories alongside other orchestral works.
"Magnificent" Sir Peter Maxwell Davies CH CBE
“Terrific” Thomas Ades
“Awe-inspiring” The Sibelius Society
We are delighted to be named orchestra in Association with The Sibelius Society UK, and we are proud on the international links we have forged with Norway, Sweden, Finland and of course our support in the UK.
We pride ourselves in providing interesting programming with symphonic repertoire in central London with only the finest musicians. It is only through the belief from our supporters, and within our unique orchestra that we have come so far so quickly.
The NLSO is continually proud of our growing Friends of the orchestra and is sincerely grateful for all the support from our loyal audience members. If you would like to know more about the benefits of becoming a Friend of the NLSO or to join our mailing list, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
NLSO is gratefully supported by Vivienne Westwood.
Our ŃLSØ 10 year strategic vision
This strategic vision is intended to build upon our core charitable objects, which are as follows:
The charity’s objects (the “Objects”) are, for the public benefit, to advance arts, culture and education by the provision and performance of public concerts, the provision of educational outreach programmes and by encouraging an appreciation of and an interest in music generally and, in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, orchestral music composed by persons born within the countries and regions from which the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, can be seen.
The NLSO aspires to provide a unique artistic and creative forum for like-minded professional musicians who are passionate about performing the varied, interesting and rarely performed repertoire of composers from Scandinavian and other countries where the “northern lights” are visible.
Our desire is to create and foster ensembles that flourish by embracing our key values of friendship, mutual respect and creative sensitivity.
Our hope is that our shared passion and mutual respect on stage will translate into thrilling and high quality musical and cultural experiences for our audiences.
Our ambition over the next 10 years is to secure funding that will allow us to focus upon and showcase rarely played and at risk repertoire of composers from Scandinavian and other countries where the “northern lights” are visible, collaborating where appropriate with dynamic and like-minded contemporary artists and musicians.
Our intention is to achieve our vision over the next 10 years through:
